How do I get my Life and Health (Disability) license?

Prepare to take the exam.

1. Sign up for the pre-licensing course through Xcel or ExamFX, the following steps are required and should be done expeditiously. Reach out to your mentor for the discount code, specific to your agency.

2. Google your state's Department of Insurance, look for Insurance Producer, then follow the step by step instructions on how to schedule the background check & fingerprints at a scanning facility near you ASAP. Do this on the same day that you sign up for the pre-licensing course so it doesn't cause delays in the future.

3. Use your state's DOI website to schedule your Life/Health Exam 2-3 weeks from the day you start studying for the exam. This will give you a deadline and motivate you to study with intention.

To register for your state insurance exam with PSI, visit this website and create a new account HERE.
- On the right-hand side you will want to click either Create an account or register for an examination
- You will select Government or State Agencies from the dropdown list.
- Select what state you are getting the resident license in.
- Classification: All (State) Department of Insurance Exams.
- Register for the Life and Health/Disability Combo.

-Select your testing date. It's recommended you take the test in person and not remotely.

* Virginia residents, visit Virginia Insurance License Instructions. They do not use PSI for their exams. Visit THIS website to schedule your test.

4. Once you pass your exam, go to NIPR.com and apply for your state license. It will not be complete until you pass your exam and upload the results to the state. You must apply for the license so the state has something to tie the background check to.

*There is no confirmation of the background check being complete, other than your license being issued.

Contact you recruiter to get a discount code specific to your agency.
